Facebook Focus: All Grown Up

Facebook has grown up over the last few years. Not only have social networking sites grown rapidly to include people of all ages, but they’re becoming popular places for companies to build brand identities and raise awareness about products and services. Over 1.5 million businesses now have an active Facebook page.

These companies know where the customers are: on more than one occasion, Facebook has exceeded Google in daily visits. It’s predicted that will happen more and more often.

Many businesses are successfully turning to social networking sites to generate brand identity and awareness, create more buzz and develop more “personal” relationships and interactions with customers and prospects than traditional advertising mediums can’t provide. And that’s not childish at all.

If you’re not one of the XX million Americans now on Facebook alone, it’s time you learn. But before jumping in blindly with your company’s reputation at stake, make sure you’re comfortable, understand the medium, and make Facebook your friend.

Let’s face it – the medium has grown. Have you?

Why Should I Care About Social Media? Part 2

Social media allows companies to talk with consumers instead of just talking at them. Today’s consumers don’t just want to buy brands. They want to buy what a brand believes in.

They want to know:

  • What are your company’s values?
  • What are your aspirations?
  • What are your thoughts on Brett Favre returning to the NFL for another season?

Believe it or not, most consumers might be swayed into choosing your store or brand versus a competitor’s if they knew such things.  Social media is a great way to share your unique brand/company personality with your consumers.

And do it in a way that doesn’t bore them to death:

  1. Talk with them on Facebook with fun and engaging posts
  2. Share videos on YouTube that invite them into your store
  3. Post pictures on Flickr so they can see your products and get to know you

Check back soon for advice on using each of these sites!
